The synopsis
Wilhelm Reich (1897–1957) was an Austrian psychoanalyst and medical doctor who became a prominent, albeit controversial, figure in psychiatry and the social sciences. A student of Sigmund Freud, Reich developed unique theories on character structure, muscular armouring, and the concept of orgastic potency. His work laid foundations for body psychotherapy and influenced fields like Gestalt therapy and bioenergetic analysis. Reich's most radical and contentious ideas revolved around 'orgone energy,' a life force he claimed to have discovered and harnessed through devices called orgone accumulators. This led to clashes with scientific and medical establishments, culminating in legal battles with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The FDA injunction against his orgone accumulators and literature, followed by his conviction for contempt of court and the infamous burning of his books, marked a dark chapter in his life. Despite these setbacks and the eventual discrediting of his orgone theories by the mainstream scientific community, Reich's influence on psychotherapy, social thought, and popular culture remains significant.

The quotes
Most intellectual people do not believe in God, but they fear him just the same.
Love, work, and knowledge are the wellsprings of our lives, they should also govern it.
The fact that political ideologies are tangible realities is not a proof of their vitally necessary character. The bubonic plague was an extraordinarily powerful social reality, but no one would have regarded it as vitally necessary.
Scientific theory is a contrived foothold in the chaos of living phenomena.
The few bad poems which occasionally are created during abstinence are of no great interest.
Honest pioneer work in the field of science has always been, and will continue to be, life's pilot. On all sides, life is surrounded by hostility. This puts us under an obligation.
Only the liberation of the natural capacity for love in human beings can master their sadistic destructiveness.
