The synopsis
Trevor Robert Seaward Allan (born 9 May 1955) is Professor of Jurisprudence and Public Law at the University of Cambridge and a Fellow of Pembroke College. He is recognized for his critiques of British constitutional orthodoxy, especially his reinterpretation of parliamentary sovereignty. Allan was educated at St Albans School and Worcester College, Oxford, earning an MA in Jurisprudence and a BCL, followed by an LLD from Cambridge. He was called to the London Bar at Middle Temple. Before joining Cambridge in 1989, he lectured in law at the University of Nottingham from 1980 to 1985. In 2016, he became a Fellow of the British Academy. His notable works include "Constitutional Justice: A Liberal Theory of the Rule of Law," "Law, Liberty, and Justice: The Legal Foundations of British Constitutionalism," and "The Sovereignty of Law: Freedom, Constitution, and Common Law." Allan argues that the rule of law holds a superior position to parliamentary sovereignty within the constitutional hierarchy.
