The synopsis

Sue Knight is an Australian philosopher, educator, and academic. Her research primarily focuses on teaching reasoning skills and integrating philosophy into school curricula. She is the author of the Primary Ethics curriculum, which has been available as an alternative to Scripture classes in New South Wales public schools for students from Kindergarten to Year 6 since 2010. Knight earned a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Adelaide in 1978, with her thesis exploring the problem of universals. She also holds a Bachelor of Education from the same university. Inspired by Matthew Lipman's work, she trained at the Institute for the Advancement of Philosophy for Children. Her career includes academic positions at the University of Adelaide and the University of South Australia. She was involved in developing South Australia's Senior Secondary Philosophy curriculum and chaired the Senior Secondary Assessment Board of South Australia's Philosophy Subject Advisory Committee. Knight co-edited "Critical and Creative Thinking: The Australasian Journal of Philosophy in Education" and has contributed to various philosophy education initiatives, including speaking at conferences and participating in working groups. She was the chief evaluator of the NSW Ethics Course Trial in 2010, which led to the legal right for students to attend ethics classes as an alternative to religious education.
