The synopsis
Rocío Orsi Portalo (3 February 1976 – 29 November 2014) was a Spanish philosopher, essayist, and translator. She served as a professor of philosophy at Charles III University of Madrid (UC3M) and is recognized as one of the most important Spanish-language thinkers of her generation. Orsi pursued her higher education at the Autonomous University of Madrid and earned her Ph.D. from UC3M. Her doctoral thesis, "Ti chre poiein, pensamiento y acción en Sófocles," directed by Antonio Valdecantos, laid the groundwork for her book "El saber del error." Throughout her career, Orsi was involved in research and teaching, with stays in Paris, Cambridge, and New York City. She was a key figure in establishing the "Grupo Kóre Estudios de Género" and held significant positions within academic societies and editorial boards, including the journal "Isegoría." Her academic interests were diverse, covering the history of ideas, political and moral philosophy, epistemology, gender studies, and political economy. Her early work focused on the intersections of philosophy and literature, and epistemological and moral issues. Later, she engaged with questions of the philosophy of history and had plans for a comprehensive study of ancient skepticism. Orsi passed away from cancer in 2014. In her memory, UC3M established the Rocío Orsi Prize for the best master's thesis in the Faculty of Humanities, Communication and Documentation.
