The synopsis
Robin Alan Collins is an American philosopher and theologian. He holds the position of Distinguished Professor of Philosophy and serves as the chair of the Department of Philosophy at Messiah University in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. His primary areas of philosophical interest lie in the relationship between religion and science, and philosophical theology. Collins earned two undergraduate degrees from Washington State University in 1984, majoring in mathematics, physics, and philosophy, graduating summa cum laude. He initially pursued a Ph.D. in physics at the University of Texas at Austin for two years before transferring to the University of Notre Dame, where he completed his Ph.D. in philosophy in 1993 with a dissertation focused on epistemological issues in the scientific realism/antirealism debate. Following his doctoral studies, Collins was a post-doctoral fellow at Northwestern University's Program in History and Philosophy of Science. He has been teaching philosophy at Messiah University since 1994. Collins is recognized as a prominent proponent of the Fine-Tuning Argument for the existence of God. He was featured in Lee Strobel's "The Case for a Creator" for his contributions. Leveraging his dual background in philosophy and physics, Collins has formulated a Fine-Tuning for Discoverability Argument, proposing that numerous scientific constants are finely tuned to facilitate human knowledge discovery about the universe.
