The synopsis
Richard Kilvington (c. 1302-1361) was an English scholastic theologian and philosopher. He was affiliated with the University of Oxford, where he was a Fellow of Oriel College. His extant writings consist primarily of lecture notes from the 1320s and 1330s, indicating his active period of scholarship. Kilvington was known to be involved in significant intellectual debates of his time, notably a controversy concerning the nature of the infinite, in which he engaged with Richard FitzRalph, a scholar from Balliol College. In the 1340s, Kilvington extended his activities beyond academia, working for Richard of Bury, the bishop of Durham. His contributions place him as a notable figure within the scholastic tradition at Oxford during the 14th century.
