Ramswaroop Verma

Ramswaroop Verma (22 August 1923 – 19 August 1998) was an Indian humanist, philosopher, writer, and political thinker, and the founder of Arjak Sangh. This organization emphasizes social equality and is strongly opposed to Brahminism. Verma denied the existence of God and the soul, and was strongly opposed to the doctrines of Karma and Fatalism. He campaigned tirelessly against Brahminism and Untouchability, asserting that Brahminism must be totally negated rather than reformed. Born in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India, he earned M.A. in Hindi and Law degrees. He was active in politics, serving as a Member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly and briefly as the Finance Minister of Uttar Pradesh in 1967. Concluding that social and cultural revolution was necessary for equality, he founded Arjak Sangh in 1968 and a Hindi weekly, *Arjak Saptahik*. He was influenced by B. R. Ambedkar and is remembered as a thinker and founder of Arjak Sangh, dedicating his life to promoting Humanism through writing and lectures.
