The synopsis
Rainer Forst (born 15 August 1964) is a German philosopher and political theorist. In 2012, he was recognized as the "most important political philosopher of his generation" when he received the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize. He is currently a Professor of Political Theory at the Department for Social Sciences at Goethe University Frankfurt. Forst is frequently associated with the newer generation of scholars linked to the Frankfurt School of critical theory. He completed his doctorate under the guidance of Jürgen Habermas in 1993, with additional supervision from John Rawls from 1991 to 1992. His primary research interests encompass political theory, pragmatism, tolerance, and political and social justice. His inaugural book in English, *Contexts of Justice*, integrated aspects of Anglo-American liberal theory and communitarianism with German critical and social theory. Forst is widely regarded as a preeminent global authority on the subject of toleration.
