The synopsis
Michael T. Ghiselin (born May 13, 1939 – died June 14, 2024) was an American biologist, philosopher, and historian of biology. He received his B.A. from the University of Utah and Ph.D. from Stanford University. Ghiselin was known for his research on sea slugs, with a species and a chemical compound named after him. He also critiqued the misrepresentation of Lamarckism in textbooks and challenged creationist views. His philosophical contributions include the concept of biological species as individuals rather than kinds. Ghiselin also had interdisciplinary interests, linking biology with economics and serving in editorial roles for bioeconomics publications.
