The synopsis
Melchiorre Delfico, born on August 1, 1744, in Teramo, Abruzzo, within the Kingdom of Naples, was an influential Italian economist and jurist. Educated in Naples, he dedicated his scholarly pursuits to jurisprudence and political economy. His numerous publications were instrumental in reforming and rectifying various societal abuses and economic restrictions. Delfico's work significantly impacted the legal and economic landscape of his time. During the reign of Joseph Bonaparte, he served as a Councillor of State. Following the restoration of Ferdinand IV, he was appointed president of the commission of archives, a role he held until his retirement in 1825. His advocacy and writings contributed to the abolition of restrictive economic policies, particularly concerning the sale and exportation of agricultural products, as well as the dissolution of feudal rights over landed property. Melchiorre Delfico passed away in Teramo on June 22, 1835, at the age of 90. He was the uncle of the caricaturist Melchiorre Delfico.
