The synopsis
Marco Antonio Zimara, born around 1460 in Galatina (Lecce) and died in 1532, was a prominent Italian philosopher of the Renaissance period. He pursued his studies at the esteemed University of Padua starting in 1497, where he was a student of renowned scholars Agostino Nifo and Pietro Pomponazzi. Zimara's academic career included teaching logic between 1501 and 1505 while also studying medicine at Padua. He later rose to the position of professor of natural philosophy in 1509. He resided in San Pietro in Galatina from 1509 to 1518. His teaching engagements extended to Salerno (1518–1522), Naples (1522–1523), and a return to Padua (1525–1528). Zimara made significant contributions through his work on medieval philosophers, particularly Albertus Magnus. He is also recognized for his efforts in publishing the works of Aristotle and Averroës, accompanied by his own commentaries. His "Tabula dilucidationum in dictis Aristotelis et Averrois," published posthumously in 1537, became an indispensable reference for scholars engaging with the texts of Aristotle and Averroës.
