The synopsis
Lucio Colletti (8 December 1924 – 3 November 2001) was an Italian Western Marxist philosopher who gained international recognition through an interview published in the New Left Review in 1974. He studied philosophy at Sapienza University of Rome, initially influenced by Western Marxism and communism. Colletti was a critic of Hegelian idealism and later became a prominent critic of Marxism itself. Throughout his career, his political affiliations evolved significantly. He was a member of the Action Party in his youth, joined the Italian Communist Party in 1949, and left it in 1964. In later years, he supported Socialist leader Bettino Craxi and was elected to the Chamber of Deputies from 1996 until his death, representing Silvio Berlusconi's Forza Italia party.
