The synopsis

Jeroen Antonius Gerardus Groenendijk (20 July 1949 – 17 October 2023) was a Dutch logician, linguist, and philosopher. His work primarily focused on the philosophy of language, formal semantics, and pragmatics. Groenendijk co-authored a Ph.D. dissertation with Martin Stokhof on the formal semantics of questions, supervised by Renate Bartsch and Johan van Benthem. He was instrumental in the advancement of dynamic semantics, alongside Stokhof, Frank Veltman, and others, building on the foundational work of Irene Heim and Hans Kamp. In his later career, Groenendijk dedicated his research to the study and development of the emerging field of inquisitive semantics. He briefly served as the director of the Institute for Logic, Language and Computation (ILLC) at the University of Amsterdam and was a member of the collective pseudonym L. T. F. Gamut.
