The synopsis
Jennifer Mather Saul (born February 19, 1968) is an American philosopher whose work focuses on the philosophy of language and feminist philosophy. She holds a professorship at the University of Sheffield and the University of Waterloo, and is a Professorial Fellow at the University of St Andrews. Saul earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Rochester and her master's and PhD from Princeton University, studying under Scott Soames. Her research in philosophy of language includes work on the distinction between lying and misleading, as detailed in her book "Lying, Misleading and What is Said: An Exploration in Philosophy of Language and in Ethics." She also examines the semantics of names and attitude reports in "Simple Sentences, Substitution and Intuitions." In feminist philosophy, Saul authored "Feminism: Issues & Arguments," an introductory text on various feminist perspectives and their application to contemporary debates. She was a co-founder and co-blogger for Feminist Philosophers, an online forum addressing gender biases in philosophy and advocating for greater representation of women in the field. Saul also directed the Leverhulme-funded Implicit Bias and Philosophy International Research Project. She has received awards such as the Distinguished Woman Philosopher award from the Society for Women in Philosophy in 2011.
