The synopsis
Jayanta Bhatta, born around 820 CE and died around 900 CE, was a prominent Indian philosopher, logician, poet, and teacher belonging to the Nyaya school of Hindu philosophy. Hailing from Srinagar, Kashmir, he was a member of a wealthy Gaur Brahmin family and was noted as a child prodigy. He served as an advisor to King Sankaravarman of Kashmir. His philosophical contributions include the works Nyayamanjari and Nyayakalika, which defend the Nyaya school's tenets and critique rival philosophical systems, particularly those of Buddhist philosophers like Dharmakirti and Dignaga. Jayanta also authored the Sanskrit play Āgamaḍambara. His work emphasized the authority of the Vedas and provided a realist viewpoint of God and the world.
