The synopsis

Jacques Bidet, born in 1935, is a prominent French philosopher and social theorist, currently serving as professor emeritus in the Philosophy Department at the Université de Paris X - Nanterre. His intellectual contributions are largely dedicated to the development of a theory of modern society, which he terms Meta/structural theory (*théorie méta/structurelle*). This theoretical framework posits that modern nation-states, functioning as integral components of the global system, are structured by both market mechanisms and organizational frameworks. These are presented as rational mediations that concurrently involve class factors. Bidet's exploration of this paradigm encompasses philosophical, sociological, historical, legal-political, and cultural dimensions, aligning with an 'Altermarxism' perspective, which distinguishes itself from classical Marxism. In 1989, he co-established the journal *Actuel Marx* with Jacques Texier, published by Presses Universitaires de France. Subsequently, in 1995, he was instrumental in founding the Congrès Marx International at the Université de Paris X - Nanterre.
