The synopsis

Izchak Miller was a philosopher and author, known for his scholarly writings on Edmund Husserl and his contributions to Husserlian phenomenology. Born in September 1935 in Jerusalem, Israel, he passed away on April 1, 1994, in New York City at the age of 58 due to cancer. Miller earned both his baccalaureate and doctoral degrees in philosophy from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He was associated with the West Coast Phenomenology school, alongside contemporaries Dagfinn Føllesdal, Ronald McIntyre, and David Woodruff Smith. Miller had a distinguished academic career, serving as a coordinator of the Cognitive Science Research Group at the University of Pennsylvania (1985-1986) and as an assistant professor in their Philosophy department (1982-1988). He also taught at Stanford University, UCLA, Brandeis University, and MIT, where he held his first professorship from 1973 to 1977. Later, in 1993, he joined the faculty of Yeshiva University. Beyond academia, Miller was a core developer of the computer game NetHack from 1986 until his death; version 3.2 of NetHack was dedicated to his memory. He is depicted in the game as the owner of a lighting store, and it's considered bad form among players to harm his character.
