The synopsis
Graham Priest (born 14 November 1948) is a British philosopher and logician. He is currently Distinguished Professor of Philosophy at the CUNY Graduate Center, and also holds regular visiting positions at the University of Melbourne and the University of St Andrews. Priest is renowned for his work on dialetheism, a philosophical position that accepts the existence of true contradictions. He has extensively analyzed various logical paradoxes, including semantic and set-theoretic paradoxes, proposing that many can be treated uniformly within paraconsistent and other non-classical logics. His philosophical approach often draws from the history of philosophy, including Asian philosophical traditions. Priest has authored numerous books, notably "An Introduction to Non-Classical Logic," and has published widely in leading philosophical and logical journals. He was a frequent collaborator with the late Richard Sylvan, another key proponent of dialetheism. Beyond his academic work, Priest has also practiced and taught karate-do and tai chi.
