The synopsis
Giuseppe Peano (27 August 1858 – 20 April 1932) was an Italian mathematician and glottologist. He authored over 200 books and papers, establishing himself as a pioneer in mathematical logic and set theory, significantly contributing to its notation, including symbols for set operations. His work on the formalization of arithmetic led to the Peano axioms, which provide a rigorous foundation for natural numbers and are named in his honor. He also made key advancements in the understanding and application of mathematical induction. Peano spent the majority of his academic career teaching mathematics at the University of Turin. Beyond his mathematical contributions, he developed an international auxiliary language called Latino sine flexione, a simplified form of Latin intended for wider communication. Many of his later works were written in this language, alongside Italian.
