The synopsis
Garlandus Compotista, also known by the name Garland the Computist, was a logician, astronomer, and mathematician who lived during the eleventh century and was part of the school of Liège. Information about his life is scarce. The *Dialectica*, a work formerly attributed to him, is now generally assigned to Gerlandus of Besançon, who lived in the early 12th century. Garlandus gained recognition for his *Computus Gerlandi*, a computus that surpassed earlier ones in complexity and accuracy. By employing more precise mathematical and astronomical techniques, Garlandus was able to revise the estimated Date of birth of Jesus.
