The synopsis

Elizabeth Barnes is an American philosopher whose work spans feminist philosophy, metaphysics, social philosophy, and ethics. She holds a professorship at the University of Virginia. Barnes completed her undergraduate studies at Davidson College, graduating *magna cum laude*, and earned her master's and PhD from the University of St Andrews, studying under Katherine Hawley and Daniel Nolan. She previously taught at the University of Leeds from 2006 before joining the faculty at Virginia in 2014. Since 2012, she has also served as editor-in-chief of the journal *Philosophy Compass*. Barnes has authored numerous philosophical articles and edited a volume on metaphysics. Her 2016 monograph, *The Minority Body: A Theory of Disability*, published by Oxford University Press, challenges conventional views of disability within analytic philosophy, proposing it as a predominantly social construct rather than an intrinsic deficit. She is married to philosopher Ross Cameron, also a professor at Virginia. Barnes was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease while writing her book *Health Problems: Philosophical Puzzles About the Nature of Health*.
