The synopsis

Eduard Gottlob Zeller was a prominent German philosopher and Protestant theologian, best known for his comprehensive historical studies of Ancient Greek philosophy, especially pre-Socratic thought. His magnum opus, 'The Philosophy of Greeks in their Historical Development' (1844–52), was a seminal work translated into multiple languages and became a standard text. Zeller's academic career spanned professorships in theology and philosophy at universities in Bern, Marburg, Heidelberg, and Berlin. He was also associated with the Tübingen School of theology and played a role in the revival of neo-Kantianism. While his original philosophical contributions were considered less influential than his historical work, he was a respected figure in German intellectual life, receiving honors from the German Emperor. His scholarship provided a crucial foundation for later studies in the history of ancient philosophy.
