The synopsis
Donald Bagley Marquis (November 2, 1935 – September 13, 2022) was an American philosopher and deontologist. He was an Emeritus Professor of Philosophy at the University of Kansas until his death. Marquis was born in Elkhart, Indiana. He earned degrees from Indiana University and the University of Pittsburgh, eventually receiving his Ph.D. in Philosophy from Indiana University in 1970. He taught at the University of Kansas from 1967 until his retirement in 2016. Marquis is best known for his 1989 paper "Why Abortion Is Immoral," published in The Journal of Philosophy. This paper, widely cited in the philosophical debate over abortion, presents the "deprivation argument," which posits that abortion deprives an embryo or fetus of a "future like ours." In his personal life, Marquis was a musician and enjoyed classical music and opera. He was married to Janet Goldsberry from 1958 to 1985 and had a long-term relationship with Lois Clark. He died at the age of 86, survived by his two children.

Ideas pull the trigger, but instinct loads the gun.
By the time a bartender knows what drink a man will have before he orders, there is little else about him worth knowing.
In order to influence a child, one must be careful not to be that child's parent or grandparent.
Pity the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
In all systems of theology the devil figures as a male person. Yes, it is women who keep the church going.
If you want to get rich from writing, write the sort of thing that's read by persons who move their lips when they're reading to themselves.
Bores bore each other too; but it never seems to teach them anything.
