The synopsis
Brian Herbert Medlin (1927–2004) was an Australian philosopher and anti-war activist. He served as the Foundation Professor of Philosophy at Flinders University in South Australia from 1967 to 1988, where he championed radical philosophy and innovative curriculum development. Medlin was a prominent figure in the Australian anti-war movement, particularly against the Vietnam War, and was arrested and imprisoned for his activism. His experiences influenced his teaching and contributed to the formation of the band Redgum. Medlin's academic career began after studying at the University of Adelaide and Oxford. His early philosophical interests included the identity theory of mind and egoism. He later became known for applying philosophical methods to contemporary social and political issues. After retiring, he moved to Victoria and focused on regenerating a property, while maintaining interests in various fields. He died in 2004.
