The synopsis
Bhāviveka, also known as Bhāvaviveka and Bhavya, was a sixth-century (c. 500 – c. 570) Madhyamaka Buddhist philosopher. He is recognized for his significant contributions to the development of Buddhist logic and philosophy, particularly his integration of Indian *pramāṇa* reasoning into the Madhyamaka framework. This approach, which utilized formal syllogisms (*svatantra*), distinguished his school of thought, the Svātantrika tradition, from the Prasāṅgika Madhyamaka.
