The synopsis
Bharadvaja, also spelled Bharadwaja, was a revered Vedic sage (maharishi) in Ancient India. He was a renowned scholar, economist, grammarian, and physician, and is counted among the Saptarshis (seven great sages). His family and students are credited with authoring Mandala 6 of the Rigveda. In the epic Mahabharata, Bharadvaja is known as the father of Dronacharya, the royal guru. His name is also associated with the Charaka Samhita, a foundational text of Ayurvedic medicine, where he is described as having learned medical sciences from Indra. Bharadvaja is considered the progenitor of the Bharadvāja gotra and is revered in both Vedic and Puranic traditions. Legends depict him interacting with figures like Rama and Bharata in the Ramayana.
