The synopsis
August Wilhelm Rehberg (13 January 1757 – 10 August 1836) was a German philosopher and politician. He is recognized for his significant contributions as a critic of Immanuel Kant's political philosophy. Rehberg, alongside Friedrich von Gentz, has been described as one of Kant's "conservative critics." They both influenced the discourse on civil freedom and equality in Kant's later works. Rehberg was employed in the civil service in Hanover. While he followed Kant in the philosophy of mathematics, he was a staunch supporter of the estate-based system and strongly opposed the French Revolution. His critiques of Kant's political ideas were developed during the winter of 1792/93. Rehberg was acquainted with Kant and had lodged objections to Kant's political philosophy. He pursued his education at the University of Göttingen.
