The synopsis

Arend Heyting (9 May 1898 – 9 July 1980) was a Dutch mathematician and logician. He is best known for his work in formalizing intuitionistic logic, developing the Heyting algebra and Heyting arithmetic. Heyting was a student of L. E. J. Brouwer at the University of Amsterdam and played a crucial role in establishing intuitionistic logic as a part of mathematical logic. While he codified Brouwer's approach, Brouwer himself was sometimes critical of formalization. Heyting also contributed to axiomatic geometry. He became a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1942. He was born in Amsterdam and died in Lugano, Switzerland.
