The synopsis
Ahmed Resmî Efendi (1700–1783) was an Ottoman statesman, diplomat, and author of Greek descent. Born in Rethymno, Crete, he rose through the Ottoman bureaucracy and served as an ambassador to Vienna (1757–1758), Berlin (1763–1764), and Russia (1768–1774). His most significant diplomatic role was as the chief Ottoman negotiator for the Treaty of Küçük Kaynarca in 1774. In the literary sphere, he is recognized for his *sefâretnâme* (embassy reports) on his missions to Berlin and Vienna, which offered insights into European politics and culture. He also authored works on Ottoman scribal history and the Russo-Turkish War. His writings marked a new emphasis on studying European affairs within the Ottoman Empire.
