The synopsis
Adolfo Sánchez Vázquez (September 17, 1915 – July 8, 2011) was a Spanish-born Mexican philosopher, writer, and professor. Born in Algeciras, Andalucia, he studied at the University of Madrid before emigrating to Mexico in 1939 after the Spanish Civil War. He continued his studies at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), earning master's and doctoral degrees. Sánchez became a professor of aesthetics and philosophy at UNAM in 1959 and later a professor emeritus in 1985. He was known for his open, renovating, critical, and non-dogmatic interpretation of Marxism, which aligned with the ideas of the Frankfurt School. In ethics, he rejected normativism. His notable philosophical works include "The Aesthetic Ideas of Marx" (1965) and "The Philosophy of Praxis" (1967). He also published "Incursiones literarias" in 2008, a work of literary and artistic criticism. Vázquez received numerous awards and recognitions throughout his career, including the National Prize for Arts and Sciences in Mexico and honorary doctorates from several universities. He died in Mexico City at the age of 95.
