Ah, Yes! Schopenhauer; the original “nutty professor” with the white hair in tufts above both temples. He can never have played Bridge, if he thought that “people had no thoughts to deal in, so they deal cards”. Considerable thought and calculation goes into remembering which cards have already been played, and working out from the bidding which cards are still to be played! The best of his quotes, I think, is “Almost all of our sorrows spring from our relations with other people!” There, he was right!
